Tribute to the Hutchen's Device

These are photos of our 2003 Harris Chassis after John went head on into the concrete wall at Park Jefferson at 80+ mph on September 3, 2005. The annotations of breaks/bends in the chassis are to highlight the severity of the impact. I also want to highlight that such breaks are the intent of a chrome-moly chassis, to absorb the force of the impact by breaking rather than transferring the energy to the driver. If you're looking for a Christmas present for your driver...make it a head and neck restraint. John has been wearing a Hutchen's device every time he's gotten in the car since 2002 waiting for this single impact. This is the kind of hit people don't walk away from, and he was barely sore after the impact and raced again 2 days later. It'll be the best $300-400 you'll spend on your racing operation this year!
